Seven Seasons

building bridges from town to town
you’re leaving boards by the wayside
and down by the riverside
they’re calling your name

underneath your heavy cloak
I know you’ve bared your soul tonight
and by the morning light
you’ll be on your way

your temples aching
your memory, breaking
and time is taking
way too long
way too long

when you come back long from now
your reputation true and bona fide
I’ll be by the riverside
still calling your name
calling your name

Mean Reds

it’s a scary place
this red room
where I lay
burying my face

it wasn’t new though
this red room
never sure when
I’d be there, true

some they run away
some they hide
some they take it all
take it all in stride
some they pamper
some they fear
some they take it all
and bring it here
to this red room
this red room
I’ll come back soon

Mud (December 2006)

who would have known?
back to the drawing board…..

rain surrounding
a puddle of mud
where I lay
helplessly shamed
melancholic and merciless
I tie these beams
strength in hands only
unaware of hope
open to nothing
I’m not well
and I sang too much

under me lies ground
unfamiliar and true
the incubated sadness gutting me
sidles up and winks
such a jerk
and buries me in splashes
as he passes me
slamming fists in the mud

May

do you question, as I do
the time suffered painfully through
the churning of a constant true
and breaking wireless of a sort?

are you happy to report
the second coming last resort?
or would you rather just retort
within your stage and clamoring few?

a docile servant becomes you
adept at nothing, talent-proof
all hate raised to those who blew
the deflating bubble that surrounds you

all that’s matter, matters not then
what succeeds won’t be forgotten

Soon

I have a system
and for that, I’m relieved
I’ll do my best
I’ll be a friend
worry not for me, no
I’ll be alright again soon

I’m glad I met you
yes for that, I’m grateful
we’re similar
your words ring true
back to before, now
and I’ll be alright again soon

it’s already better
and for that, I’m glad
I feared the worst
but you’re a friend
and when I pick myself up
dust myself off
and look back at you
I know before long
I’ll be alright again, soon
