just a normal night, reading in bed
you listened hard, felt the rush
something changed in your head
thought of her magenta touch
second wind, you grabbed your coat
locked your door, and ran outside
to the water, where you hoped
to chase the wave back to the tide
you’re in for a ride
I saw you at the water in the middle of night
wondered what was on behind your distant eyes
you called out to me, “I couldn’t get to the light
so I’m leaving home, as the crow flies”
look down at your knees
there’re lilypads among the leaves
why can’t you discern beauty from bland?
in the water over land
I knew you before the colours changed
before the closets became deranged
before your world became a stage
you need to go home, as the crow flies
look down at your feet
you’re no different from me
why aren’t you happy where you stand?
in the water over land
I saw you at the water in a downpour of rain
it’d been a while but you remembered my name
you said, “I didn’t expect to ever see you again
I should prolly go home, as the crow flies
can you take me home, as the crow flies?”
