I seriously doubt I will ever summon up the courage to try Balut. (a.k.a. bird fetus) ….. and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t ever *want* to.
But, to each their own!
P.S. I was going to attach a photo, but decided it would require a warning for the weak-stomached. You can thank me later.
What other foods do you tend to shy away from? And is it just because of the presentation, or does the smell make you nauseous? I ask because it’s an interesting position to take.
Well, I recently saw a video of people eating these and the idea made me feel queasy. I’ve never seen them in real life, but I’ve read they also smell awful. I’m a fan of critters, though I’m not vegetarian, and this is a little too close to eating the live creature for my taste. Not that I’m against it. I suppose it’s like finding out as a kid that the lamb you eat at family get-togethers may have been one of the ones you played with in the field….. if you catch my drift.
I should also mention that I generally don’t rule anything out, and try to do things that frighten me a bit (as long as it’s commonplace for others), just to push my own boundaries.
