New Eyes

.

.

my head was dull when I gave it a try
I dried my eyes on consensus
fate tricks us all at some point
make us wise to our defenses
.
old, old eyes that scare me
lashes gone, amiss
swollen lids and see-through skin
so little beauty in this
.
you stung your mind with thoughts, denial
I don’t know the confusion
potency stays in the vial
of your own delusion
.
and old, old eyes, they smile at me
and defend my decision
.
old, old eyes that scare me
lashes gone, amiss
swollen lids and see-through skin
I never wanted this
.
some see dark as cold or gray
as old but I see charming
when through the age, the view is new
and sage, it’s quite disarming
so now I know that fair’s not fair
as told, and it’s relieving
the beauty in the eyes is as bold
now as won’t be leaving
your old, old eyes serve as a warning
my chosen two I won’t be mourning
.
